JUST FOR KIDS  Books for little ones   -  Books for bigger ones   -  Puppets  -  Soft toys When my kids were little and I was a stay at home Mum, I got together with two friends to design and make soft furnishings and other decorative elements for children's rooms.  We called ourselves Rainbow Rooms. My major contribution was a made-to-order alphabet chart.  My idea was to introduce young children to the alphabet through colourful, easily recognizable images.  To add interest, I used many different embroidery techniques and materials. Every stitch is sewn by hand and a hundred hours of work is probably a very conservative estimate. My reward is that my older daughter learned her letters and subsequently taught herself to write and read (in that order) using the original.  I have since made five more; two I sold, two went to a nephew and a grandson, and the fifth (pictured below) is waiting for a home.
